Dillon Deaton is a North Carolina based cinematographer who specializes in vérite documentary and commercial filmmaking with a penchant for sensitive, character-driven stories.
He is a regular contributor to The New York Times and has worked on films and series featured on HBO Max, Discovery, Hulu, The Magnolia Network, and PBS among others. Most recently, Deaton produced and filmed a series of videos documenting the devastation after Hurricane Helene in Western North Carolina. He is currently the lead cinematographer for a multi-year non-fiction series produced by Lowes. Other cinematography credits include Max’s FROM THE SOURCE, Max/Hulu’s CABIN CHRONICLES, and PBS’s RITUALS hosted by Tank Bell.
Deaton is a graduate of University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where he was a Stuart Sechriest Award Winner and garnered national acclaim from College Photographer of the Year and the Hearst Journalism Awards. He is a member of the Video Consortium.
